You are cordially invited to the 1998 Taiwanese American Conference/East Coast (TAC/EC '98) which will be held at University of Delaware, Newark, Delaware from July 2 to July 5, 1998. The annual conference is being organized and planned by the Taiwanese Association of America, Greater Washington Chapter (TAA-GWC). The TAC/EC conference started in 1970 and is the longest, the best organized, and the largest event for Taiwanese American in the Northeast and mid-Atlantic areas in the United States. The TAC/EC '98 will be the 29th conference. TAA-GWC is honored to host the 29th TAC/EC meeting.

We are also very happy to report that Taiwanese Collegians had decided to hold their summer conference jointly with TAC/EC '98. Their participation of the conference will definitely enrich and enhance the overall programs. We welcome them and are looking forward to working together in the coming months.

The theme of TAC/EC '98 is "To Know Taiwan, Take Root in the America, Engage in the World". The topics of our conference will include issues of culture, economy, politics, health, finance, religion, health, new and high technology, life and living, and woman movements. In addition, there will be a Friday night semi-formal banquet and Saturday Taiwan Night.

The John M. Clayton Conference Center (302-831-1259) of University of Delaware will be the main facility for this year's meeting. The Conference Center can be easily reached by automobile from I-95. The dinner facility is adjacent to the Center and the residence halls are located around it. All conference facilities and residence halls are air-conditioned. There will be limited upscale university-guest qrooms available at slightly higher rates and are assigned to participants on a first-come first-serve basis.

While all first-generation programs are designed in Taiwanese and that of second-generation in English, there will be joint programs to be provided for all participants. All second-generation programs will be designed and conducted mainly by members of SOTA, ITASA and high school youth. Residential Assistant and Junior Counselor will guide all second-generation participants through a fun-filled, well-structured, and exciting conference.

So, please come to join us and to have a memorable July 4th weekend in this summer. See you at TAC/EC '98.
